Gilead's oral emvistegrast meets the primary endpoint in Phase 2 ulcerative colitis
- Gilead's once-daily oral α4β7 integrin inhibitor emvistegrast (GS-1427) met its primary endpoint in the Phase 2 SWIFT study in ulcerative colitis.
- At the 200 mg dose, clinical remission at week 12 was roughly three times the placebo rate, with nominal significance and good tolerability.
- STAT's report is paywalled; figures here follow Gilead's own statement.
💡 Points
An oral α4β7 blocker is the obvious answer to injectable vedolizumab, and a roughly 23-point placebo-adjusted remission is credible for a Phase 2. But the p-values are nominal and the arms are small, so Phase 3 and Takeda's entrenched biologic franchise, not this readout, decide whether the oral convenience story pays.
