Amgen Starts a MariTide Autoinjector Phase 3 as Tolerability Becomes the Test
- Amgen has begun another Phase 3 trial of home self-administration of subcutaneous MariTide with an autoinjector; ClinicalTrials.gov lists primary completion in June 2027.
- The MARITIME programme has 10 trials, two more are due to start this year, and the first Phase 3 data are expected in 2027.
- Analysts are focused on tolerability rather than weight loss; R&D chief Jay Bradner said a conventional single-chamber handheld device is planned.
Amgen's pitch is dosing as rarely as four times a year, which would separate MariTide from Lilly's and Novo's weekly products, but that only matters if dose escalation is tolerable. The device study is the quiet commercial step: using a conventional autoinjector reduces launch risk if the pivotal data land. Both BMO and Truist describe differentiation as unproven, so the first GI-event data from Phase 3 is the real readout.
