Vertex Heads Into a Possible November Povetacicept Approval With a Citizen Petition Over Infection Monitoring
- Vertex says it is ready to launch povetacicept in IgA nephropathy; an FDA approval could come by the end of November.
- A late-October citizen petition asks the FDA to require antibody-level monitoring because of infection risk; Vertex did not directly address it on the call.
- Q3 revenue rose 12% to $3.44 billion, with Alyftrek and Casgevy ahead of estimates and Journavx below; full-year guidance was nudged up to $13.15–13.25 billion.
The petition matters more than the earnings beat: if the label ends up with immunoglobulin monitoring, a monthly home autoinjector loses some of its convenience edge over the two IgAN drugs already on the market. Vertex is also launching a low-volume, highly concentrated device at scale for the first time outside cystic fibrosis, so supply is a second thing to check. The $10 billion Crinetics purchase is weighing on near-term earnings per share.
